Victorian Doulton Burslem Biscuit Barrel 1886-1891
We have the pleasure of being able to offer this lovely tactile Doulton Burslem earthenware biscuit barrel with silver plated mounts.
The biscuit barrel has an ovoid ribbed body, with a cobalt-blue collar patterned in gilt with a floral design. The body of the biscuit barrel has a textured cream background decorated with gilt and the Doulton Burslem Persian Spray pattern in navy blue. The whole biscuit barrel is surmounted with silver plated mounts consisting of a silver plated collar and swing handle and a beautifully engraved lid patterned with a lovely geometric design finished with quite a stunning conical final. The underside of the lid is marked with pseudo hallmarks and the makers mark WT. The underside of the lid is also marked with 7054/G4.
The base of the biscuit barrel carries the Doulton Burslem marks for 1886-1891 along with the US Patent No 31L.002 and the additional mark B475.
The silver plated mounts are in a very good antique condition, as is the earthenware body of the biscuit barrel other than a tiny firing fault to the rim of the base.
This biscuit barrel is approximately 6 inches wide at its widest point.
