Circa 1890, very unusual and rare patented postal scales. The brass top has an unusual measure mechanism comprising of 5 cast brass rods which move into an upright position as the weight is applied to the scales. There is a small brass marker board on the left hand side which gives the cost of the post. The piece stands on a mahogany base in the form of a refectory table with trestle ends.
