Tiny 18thC Welsh Box settle
A very sweet Welsh pine Box Settle of desirable small proportions c1780-1830. Of a rare design type associated with North West Pembrokeshire this settle came from a cottage in the village of Boncath near Cardigan and the Teifi Valley. There is an identical settle illustrated on page 62 of Welsh Furniture volume one by Richard Bebb described as being from Eglwyswrw which is just a couple of miles from Boncath. In nice original condition throughout with gently wear and warm colour. The horizontal boards to the back are an unusual feature with pretty shaped slab ends and box seat offering practical storage. With some historic worm and mouse holes it has plenty of character, the kick boards around the base possibly later.
