Here is an excellent example of a very good quality post Edwardian three piece antique bergere suite comprising two carver fireside armchairs and a matching three seater sofa / couch / settee, circa 1910 – 1920. The suite is constructed of solid walnut. The suite features the original cane work there is single panel cane work to the back and double panel cane work to the sides of the chairs. The suite boasts a central flame walnut veneered inserts on solid walnut with shaped apron carvings. The arms carve over and terminate in acanthus leaves. The base of the suite descends into further acanthus leaves and then cabriole legged lion paw feet at the front and sabre legs to the rear. The suite is fitted with top and bottom feather filled William & Morris design cotton cushions on the original sprung base. The seats are generously wide, deep and comfortable and the feather filled cushions add to the luxury. The suite seats five people comfortably. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The cane work is in good condition there are two small holes (one on the back right hand side of the settee which is 2.5cm in diameter - this cannot be seen as the cushion sits in front of the cane work. The second hole is on the right hand side of one of the chairs which is 4.5cm in diameter but because the sides of the chairs feature double panel cane work, it is very difficult to notice this hole - both holes are hardly noticeable.
