T.Davidson 19th C.Watercolour Pensive Pretty Girl
This is a lovely watercolour of a very pretty girl by the artist T. Davidson, who has signed the painting on the letter that the girl has been reading. According to the old mount, the artist was a T. Davidson, but we have been unable to discover which T. Davidson, by comparing such signatures of artists with this name and initial that are available with this one, but none match.
This young woman is seated in a panelled room and sits pensively staring into the distance, lost in thought. Perhaps she is thinking about the person who wrote the letter that is in her hards. She is dressed in a typical high-waisted dress of the early 1800s, in a white material with enbroidered sprigged skirt with short puffed sleeves, and has long fingerless mittens, which cover most of her arms up to the elbow. Her hair is held back by two ribbon bands in the fashion of the period.
As we have been unable to identify the artist, we can offer no biographical information, but this is a very well executed work by a very competent hand.
The painting has been newly double mounted in two-tone acid free mountboard to complement and is newly framed in a 1 1/4" bronzed frame to suit.
Image size: 11 3/8" x 7 7/8" - 28.85cm x 20cm
Frame size: 19 1/2" x 15 5/8" - 49.6cm x 39.6cm
Medium: Watercolours
Condition: Very good. There is no foxing or fading and the colours are true. The mounts and frame are new.
