A stunning piece of fine Regency antique furniture this secretaire bookcase is made in mahogany and is in the style of the Greek revival of Thomas Hope. The bookcase is on a console base with original mirror back the whole supported by fine carved scroll legs. The secretaire drawer is fitted with satinwood drawers and is of a typical simple elegant design, with one drawer fitted with inkwells. The bookcase has fine elegent arched glazing and the pediment top is carved with a Greek scroll and central anthemion. The style of the secretaire bookcase is typical of Thomas hopes work with the scrolls and anthemion and the unusual console base that gives the piece a light elegant feel. The condition is untouched coming directly from a local house, the colour of the mahogany is wonderful and the whole thing is in a lovely original condition. C.1820
