A superb mahogany roll top oak desk from the renown workshops of P. E. Gane of Queen Street, Cardiff, Wales. The rectangular moulded top above an unusual dentil moulded frieze. The "S" shaped tambour with brass maker’s name plate and opens to a particularly well fitted interior consisting of an arrangement of 27 various shaped drawers and pigeon holes. All drawers with brass name/subject plates and the writing surface retaining the original but worn tooled red leather. The base section with 2 mahogany pedestals each having 4 graduated drawers with tooled red leather lined slides above and a central kneehole drawer. The ends and back with very good panels set within chamfered and moulded frames and the whole standing on plinth bases with later added casters. This wonderful desk retains all the original good quality brass handles with working lock and key and is mahogany lined throughout.
