A wonderful earlier Victorian sampler in stunning bur oak frame. The sampler worked in silks on linen, has a trailing floral border with central floral motifs and crowns etc. The central verse reads Dear are the friends whom God has given my youthful steps to guide, but dearer still is that friend in heaven who for my ransom died. Sarah S Hoden 1842. The frame is of a wild bur like oak with chamfered sides and turned roundels at the corners. The whole is completely untouched and in excellent condition, just some typical fading to the needlework. This is a superb example of it's type.
