A lovely clean set of brass scales. I guess I would be considered a bit too old if I pointed out that I can remember buying sweets that we sold by the quarter on scales such as these. Then those electric things came out and the childhood pleasure of them dropping into the pan began to fade. Perhaps it was me getting older but it was never quite the same.
Now we have to buy them all in packets with only the odd exception. These scales with the mahogany base plate are in super condition, having had the base re French polished and the brass all cleaned. They would look fantastic in so many lacations and make a great present perhaps. Could go in a kitchen, and still be used of course as there is a slightly harlequin set of weights with them, these have calibration markes on them as can be seen on the 19th Century 8oz weight as per the picture. What about being a bit of a talking point in a study or in the office, maybe a pub or what would really be cool, would be back in a sweet shop, especially if they were used, even in Oxford where they were made. We have been in business for 40 years and are now coming up to retirement. We are in consequence looking to reduce our stock, Delivery can be arranged with a specialist carrier for around £70 to most areas. We now open by appointment, but we are often open Fridays and Saturdays, but cannot guarantee,( our sign will be out if passing ) it is worth ringing before coming.Tel 01565 874075
