Stunning Large 18thC Welsh Oak Pig Bench
A superb large 18thC Welsh Oak pig bench of highly desirable heavy primitive construction. Solid and stable with the most wonderfully figured timber and tactile surface. The incredible one piece slab oak top being an impressive 4” thick making for the most exceptional look. Purchased from a private 18thC house in the lower Teifi Valley in Ceredigion.
Original throughout and in excellent condition with gorgeous gentle wear. This particular example being far nicer than usual, with beautifully natural waney edged shaping to the underside of the top and amazing proportions. This particular pig bench incorporates an interesting wrought iron dog hammered into one end for the purpose of scraping the flesh to remove hairs and adding strength to the end grain of the timber slab, a fascinating feature that we have never seen before which really adds to this benches appeal.
This exceptional example would look great in a modern house, minimalist flat, coffee shop or high end retail outlet as much as it would a traditional farmhouse or country cottage.
Forever popular with interior designers and country stylists these make the most decorative and practical Coffee Tables.
These are always quite rightly sought after items, pig benches usually being of pine, to have a superior timbered oak example with such beautiful colour and presence is very special indeed.
Length 4ft 10” = 147cm. Width 15” = 38cm. Height 21” = 53cm. Top thickness 4” = 10cm
