Spode Etruscan Cup & Saucer Serpent Handle c.1817
Very pretty Spode etruscan shape cup and saucer with a snake's head handle with coiled tail at the lower terminal. Decorated inside the cup and the saucer with purple enamels and gilding in a elaborate design of feathery foliage and branches. The center framed with a ring of gilt arches with hanging bellflowers is replicated in a band around the outside of the cup. The serpent handle is also richly gilded with finer detail to the head. The cup is marked with gold pattern number 1590 I think. This specific cup design dates to c.1817-1825.
The cup measures 12cm (4 3/4") rim to handle, 9.5cm (3 3/4") rim to rim and 6cm (2 3/8") high. The saucer measures 14cm (5 1/2") wide and 2.2cm (7/8") high. Condition is excellent with no damage or restoration and minimal surface wear. There is a small fault to the foot rim of the cup original to manufacture. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque. If you prefer to pay by Stripe please go to our website where we offer that option and additionally options to "Pay in 30 days" and to pay in 3 instalments, all securely supported.
