Small antique Yew Wood Potboard Dresser, and Rack.
This is an exceptional and versatile Pot board Dresser and Rack.
The Base.
Most unusually, the base is made entirely of yew wood, including the plank back board.
It has square champfered legs and 5 drawers above a deep shaped apron,with a pot board below.
The top, made of a single plank of yew, has a row of dummy spice drawers along the back with a grooved plate shelf above.
The drawers are ash lined and of dovetailed construction. It has period 19th C Sheraton oval brass handles.
Small in size - 4 feet 5 inches wide, this is a completely handmade piece of antique furniture and probably dates to the end of the 19th C or the early years of the 20thC
The Rack
This fits the base perfectly, and allow for a splendid display of plate when fully dressed.
It is 19th C, has wide oak back boards and the shelves are grooved to take plates. It has a row of beautifully made wrought iron cup hooks to the cornice.
Because the rack is oak, and the base yew wood, I think it is likely that the original rack has been sadly lost or damaged and this is a very well matched replacement.
The dresser can be used as a standalone sideboard dresser base, or as a full dresser and rack, either way a fabulous and imposing piece of antique furniture. AUTUMN SALE
