Small Antique Mahogany Ladys Writing Table Desk

A good quality small antique Edwardian mahogany lady’s writing desk with drop leaves dating from circa 1905 by Cornelius V Smith. With hinged stationary rack to the back with a lid that opens to reveal small divisions inside for envelopes etc. The desk surface with a green leather insert with gold tooling over a single frieze drawer. It stands on fluted square tapered legs culminating in spade feet. In a well figured mahogany with a rich patina. Would make an attractive hall table, side table or desk for a laptop. It has a working lock and key to the drawer and stationary cabinet top. A quality piece stamped with makers initials “CVS” to the underside of one leg.
Cornelius Vincent Smith was first listed in The Furniture Gazette in 1891 as, “the well-known upholstering manufacturer and art antique furniture maker” He was especially well known for his chairs. He had workshops in North West London at Osnaburgh Street and later at Hampstead Road.
