This set of four antique balloon-back chairs date from c.1860. Please note that they are in need of some restoration. The chairs have solid mahogany frames with shaped reeded legs at the front and nice balloon backs with decorative shield back rests. The chairs have swept back legs. They have serpentine-fronted seats and drop-in seat pads with later rexine upholstery.

Condition: Overall this handsome set of of chairs are in need of some restoration. One of the chairs has a broken top rail (the dowels have broken at the join) and this is in need of repair. The wooden frames are scuffed, grubby and worn and would benefit from being repolished. Except for the broken one, the joints are relatively solid with only some minimal movement. The upholstery is dated, grubby, ripped and worn, and the stuffing has moved has moved inside the seats. Some of the webbing underneath the seat pads is damaged. The seats would benefit from complete reupholstery.
