Serpentine Gentlemans Chest With Fitted Drawer

A serpentine gentleman’s chest with fitted drawer in mahogany. Scrawled inside the backboard in pencil G. Ford 1789. This maker was active in St. Pauls churchyard, London, which was a hive of cabinet making at this time. The top has “Bombay” corners, cross banded in kingwood. Inside the top drawer is a silk velvet lined brushing slide. All the drawers are oak lined the fitted drawer is mahogany lined. This fitted drawer contains all a gentleman would need in eighteenth century an adjustable folding mirror edged with ebony and boxwood herringbone on a rachet. Also a ring tray and various lidded compartments banded in tulip wood. Each compartment contains a box that fits like a glove. There are also compartments for writing necessities. There is a secret drawer fitted with a pair of writing bottles and spaces for sealing wax and seals. All standing on splayed feet to the front with an carved apron and with the original backboards behind. Payment by BACS preferred.
It measures 41 1/2″ wide x 34″ high x 22 1/2″ deep.
