A large Mak Merry footed bowl and cover typically decorated with blossom. The cover is also decorated with identical blossom and cherries so I presume the base and the cover were probably painted by different decorators.

It stands 18cm high to top of finial and the cover measures approximately 23cm in diameter. There is a chip to the base rim and a further area where the base has had a small knock. Overall crazing commensurate with age.

The Mak Merry Pottery in Macmerry, East Lothian, was established by farmer’s wife and suffragette Catherine Blair during the 20s. Mrs Blair was a talented artist and believed handmade arts and crafts could give the makers a sense of achievement and belief in their own abilities.

Base painted with mark in green and cover in blue.
