Satinwood Aesthetic Movement Open Bookcase
A finely made satinwood open bookcase, of elegant upright form, the bookcase is arranged with three open shelves above a deeper base compartment and stands on shaped bracket feet with a serpentine apron.
The piece is veneered throughout in richly figured satinwood, the interior panels displaying attractive rippling grain. The shaped cresting is centred by an oval painted panel depicting a floral bouquet on a green ground, framed by a gilt beaded border and surrounded by scrolling foliate decoration. Hand-painted foliate ornament continues down the sides and across the apron and feet, characteristic of the decorative vocabulary of the Aesthetic Movement.
The gently scrolled sides create a soft architectural outline, while the open arrangement provides practical display for books or objects.
