Royal Doulton Stoneware Tubelined Vase with Verse
Attractive Royal Doulton Stoneware tubeline decorated vase by Bessie Newbery c1910. Elegantly shaped baluster form body with waisted neck and everted rim. Beautifully depicted white carnations on a mottled sky-blue ground. Verse to reverse of vase reading "Time is ever on the wing, With it's song and sorrow, Strive to go some good today, Wait not 'til to-morrow." Impressed Royal Doulton mark (used 1902-1922) to base together with monograms BN (for Bessie Newbery) and t (unknown). The vase is 26 cm in height.
This vase is in excellent condition commensurate with age. No chips, cracks or crazing. Salt-glazing naturally produced a stippled effect on the finished colour. Please see images as these form an important part of the description.
Bessie Newbery was listed in 1882 as a Junior Assistant but her talent was recognised and she was promoted to Senior Assistant. By 1911 she was working as a Supervisor and Artist, designing original work c1914 to 1924. Viewing welcomed - please contact us in advance.
