Royal Doulton Omar Khayyam HN2247 Figurine %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
Offered for sale is a Royal Doulton figure of Omar Khayyam designed by Mary Nicoll.
Omar Khayyam was an astronomer, astrologer, physician, philosopher, and mathematician: he made outstanding contributions in algebra. His poetry is better known in the West than any other non-Western poet. Omar Khayyam died at the age of 83 in his hometown of Nishapur on December 4, 1131. He was buried in a tomb whose location he had chosen in an orchard where blossom would fall twice a year.
This figure was issued from 1964-1983, however, the absence of the words "Fine China" on the backstamp indicate that this particular figure was made between 1964 and 1972.
