Superb Roll Front Desk - Stunning Example - c1880
This mahogany writing desk is a beautiful example with a gorgeous design and a host of interesting features.
The desk is presented in excellent order throughout.
A twin pedestal style, the desk rides upon original brass castors with three drawer cabinets flanking the knee-hole. The desk displays excellently from all angles and features a finished rear therefore can be used in locations where it is not positioned against a wall.
The solid bow roll-front lifts to reveal a superbly fitted interior. The desk section slides forward adding to the working depth of the desk top and revealing an angle reading flap with document storage under. The desk top presents a trio of embossed and tooled leather panels.
To the rear six drawers flank arched cubbies and presented attractively with a contrasting light tome to the timber. The top of the desk provides a raised gallery which adds to the style and prevents items from falling to the rear.
A perfect example of practicality and good design with craftsmanship which marks the piece out as one of quality.
Overall this piece of antique furniture is in very good condition. It is rare to find an example in this order.
