Richard Britton Gouache Harvest Mice & Poppies
We are pleased to offer for sale this charming and meticulously detailed gouache/watercolour by the artist Richard Britton, who has signed the painting to the lower left. The painting depicts three Harvest Mice with their long tails almost linked, which is a trait of theirs, perched on a stalk of corn, near to a clump of scabious, corn and red poppies. Harvest Mice are the smallest British mice and are 5cm long, with a tail of 6cm and they weigh 6-7g. They build round nests of tightly woven grass between stems of plants and off the ground. Their habitat is grassland, reedbeds, hedgerows and edges of woodland.
This is one of a small collection of paintings by this artist that we have acquired and will be listing over the next few weeks.
Richard N. Britton was born in 1931 and has been a professional artist for over 40 years and his main subject is animal portraiture, as well as landscapes, seascapes and sculpture. He uses a full range of media.He lives in Worcestershire where he has his studio.
He spent six months in South Africa at the invitation of the Department of Nature Conservation, painting endangered wildlife, which led to many commissions to paint equestrian portraits on the Cape. He is a committed conservationist.
He has exhibited at the Society of Wildlife Artists, the Society of Equestrian Artists and is a regular exhibitor at Worcester Society of Artists.
The painting is mounted, glazed and framed in a 7/8" gilt frame. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
