Rare Windsor Castle Rosewood Library Table
Of Royal Interest a William IV / early Victorian round rosewood library table of elegant form with original black leather top. Stamped to the underside of one of the legs is VR 1866 WINDSOR CASTLE. ROOM 219.
Fine quality table with solid rosewood base with original castors. The top which tips is veneered on solid mahogany, narrow rosewood cross banding to the top with original black leather insert. The rosewood veneered freize is nice and narrow with small beaded moulding at the bottom edge.
The branding on one of the legs prooves beyond any doubt that this table was, at the time of the Royal inventory taken at Windsor Castle in 1866, was located in room 219 which at that time was known as the school room. Subsquently room 219 was re-decorated around 1888 and became Princess Victoria of Wales sitting room. We have a picture of room 219 at Windsor castle taken around 1870 when it was the school room where the table can be seen in situ. We have also found another picture of "The Green Drawing Room" at Windsor castle around 1900 where the table can also be seen in that room at that time.
The table is in good original condition although it does require a couple of minor veneer repairs which will be done. The leather top also requires slight restoration by a leather expert.
SIZE 51" diameter. 28 1/2" high.
