Rare Historically Important Yew Wood Windsor Chair
A Rare pair of Yew Wood Broad Arm Windsor Armchairs, from the workshop of William Gilling of Bridge Street, Worksop, William 1797-1898 was apprenticed to a cabinet maker John Wright of Worksop but left for America about 1850, possibly making chairs there, on his return he set up a business of chair making employing 13 people including his 2 sons. One of these chairs carries his trade label which clearly shows the kind of chairs he was making, the label reads Mr J Bingham, Bury Station, Lancashire, 5 Chairs, 4 March carriage paid. This chair is illustrated in The English Regional Chair by Bernard Cotton.
This Super pair of chairs are in excellent condition showing bright Yew markings .
