Rare Early C19th Staffordshire Satirical Stirrup Cup Staffordshire pearlware stirrup %%alt5%%
A satirical anti-Catholic Staffordshire pearlware pottery metamorphose stirrup cup made in the very early part of the 19th century.

The cup is modelled with reversible heads of the Pope and the Devil. The Pope is shown wearing his mitre and the cup inverts to form a horned devil's mask, flanked by acanthus leaves. A similar example is located in the Willett Collection in the Brighton Pavilion Museum.

In excellent condition, given its age. There is possibly some restoration on the cross.
