Queen Victoria Golden Jubilee Beaker, Doulton 1887
Doulton, later Royal Doulton, have a long established tradition of producing souvenirs for important Royal occasions. Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee in 1887, celebrating 50 years since she came to the throne in 1837, was one of the first occasions that the company was able to commemorate following it's acquisition of a factory in Burslem, Staffordshire in 1882, which gave Doulton the ability to produce more in the way of china rather than earthenware, which remained the focus of their Lambeth factory.
Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee was the first such event to be nationally celebrated and commemorated with souvenirs. These proved to be hugely popular with the public and set the trend for all such royal events to follow.
This beaker features a design showing a young Queen Victoria in 1837 and her older self in 1887 beneath a crown and a VR cypher. It is transfer printed in brown on a cream background with a laurel wreath similarly printed around the top rim.
Condition is very good with no chips or cracks and just some crackling to the glaze, which you would expect after over 130 years. It looks as though it has never been used and kept as a treasured souvenir that passed down through the generations. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The beaker is 10cm / 3.9ins high and 9cm / 3.5ins in diameter across the top rim.
The underside of the base is marked with the Doulton Burslem stamp of the period (they didn't become Royal Doulton until 1902).
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
