Queen Anne Oak Bow Front Corner Cabinet

A beautiful early 18th Century bow front corner cabinet with original upper shelf and having a glorious well developed honey oak colour. In excellent original condition, retaining original hewn oak planked back and beautiful original shaped shelves of fine oak boards. The backboards with original red staining. Working lock and key.
These early high quality cupboards were made to hold fine porcelain tea cups and pots at a time when tea was as expensive as silver – the upper shelves displaying the most highly prized and valuable tea serving accoutrements such silver sugar shakers. Inside would be tea cups and side plates, teapots and the tea caddie with mixing bowl. All kept under lock and key, tea and sugar both being such expensive and prized commodities at this time.
This cupboard can be wall hung or floor standing on its well made early 19th century oak stand which has matching carved decoration and of a carefully matched honey oak.
Dating from the early 18th century, c. 1710, this is a rarely found Queen Anne example. Almost all have lost their upper shaped shelving and crest over the centuries but here it has survived intact and a bow front was always an expensive addition by the maker, you can see the work on the inner faces of the doors with a hand held adze to achieve the bow in the solid.
A charming, usable and very pretty original example.
Dimensions are:
31.5 inches wide, 21 inches deep front to back and 74.5 inches high.
For metric please multiply by 2.5
Diagram showing detailed dimensions available on request. I describe and photograph my pieces accurately and with the aim that on arrival each will exceed expectations.
I operate a full refund guarantee and am always happy to give free, honest and friendly advice.
