Queen Anne Figured Walnut Chest Of Drawers
A superb Queen Anne figured walnut chest of drawers. There are a number of things that elevate this above the normal chests of this period. It has a fantastic warm walnut colour with nice figuring to the veneer. It has feather banding to all drawers and to the top with additional walnut cross banding to the outer edge.
The sides have cross banding to the back and front edge. At some stage the bun feet have been replaced, but are of great colour, right size, shape and sit well. All the drawers have their original cast pear drop handles and escutcheons and once more a sign of quality it has solid oak linings not the usual pine. As this chest is of good quality all the locks have been replaced with like for like steel ones, therefore all in working order with keys.
Another nice feature is the double D moulding surrounding all drawers, most only have a single version. The top has nice quality quarter figured walnut veneer again with feather banding. Top, bottom and sides of the carcass have ogee moulding with the front being cross grained. All back boards are original with old paper applied. This chest was made in 1710. On the first long drawer there is inscription saying "made anno June/July? 1710" and I have no reason to disbelieve that this was written by the person who made it. This chest with it's sympathetic restoration is in good sound condition and ready to use and would grace any room from any period.
