A primitive portrait of a lady circa 1840/50.

Paintings of this ilk tend to tell something about the sitters life. The importance of the open book and what appears to be a slate tablet sitting on the table suggest this lady was a teacher.

Contained behind glass within a solid oak frame, gilded corner rosettes and brass hanging loop to top.
