Pretty Provincial Painted Pine Side Table c.1830

The lightweight pine carcass showing the wonderful original paint layers of west country duck egg blue and green with a later darker shade, each layer worn thoroughly and consistently with age, with the almost bare top having a shaped gallery back over a single drawer with original knob handle, the whole raised on square tapering legs, surviving from the William IV to early Victorian period.
The rustic and provincially made carcass has a wonderful patina, with a host of character commensurate with its age and heavy use. The piece is light and wouldn’t be suitable for heavy use. It remains steady but the joints are weaker than they were. The knob handle is original and there have been no additions to the piece since its creation. The drawer cavity has some loss to the top edge. Overall it could be used as is and enjoyed as a beautiful decorative piece.
The shaped gallery back here is reminiscent of the designs to Scandinavian pieces of the same age though the gallery on those pieces would have been more refined and less substantial.
As decorative as they come.
