Early 19th.c. portrait painting of a lady, possibly an Abbess, dated 1804. Half length portrait of an older lady with a kind face in a black hood and white lace cap. With a simple gold cross worn on a black ribbon tied below her chin, in her hand she holds a finely bound book of gospels. Very well painted in oil on canvas with especially good treatment of the skin to the face and hands. Sitter and artist are unknown but the name Coller (or Collet) and the date 1804 are included on the front cover of the book. Good condition presented unframed on the original stretcher.
