Pierre Ohniguian MASSIVE Raku Studio Pottery Vase
AUGUST SALE. REDUCED PRICES UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH!
PIERRE OHNIGUIAN (French, b. 1944)
A monumental and extraordinary raku and altered studio pottery vase.
This vase represents a major undertaking in clay: the vast body has been very well crafted, with the outer surface impressed and etched with an arrangment of characters and symbols. The one side displays a fascinating and somewhat 'brutal' tear or opening, which has been embellished with 'rivets' or 'stitches' made from metal strips and threads of various shapes and sizes. This 'torn and stitched' feature is wholly 'by design' and a statement a trademark of this potter's work......but it is rare to find on such a massive piece as this.
The whole has been subject to a raku firing - again, a major undertaking - and this has resulted in the most wonderful, tactile, crackle-glazed surface...with areas of high-gloss white contrasting brilliantly with matt black pitting and freckling.
It is fully signed with both the potter's impressed seal and an inscribed yin-yang, to the upper neck area (see last photo).
Very rare to find in the UK, this hugely impressive pot is impossible to ignore has sparked conversation and debate in every single person who has seen it.
A great piece for the interior designer, this pot offers a unique and knock-out statement piece with immense presence: I imagine it gracing either a hallway, or, within a main living space where it could be positioned floor-standing or slightly elevated to stunning effect.

Dimensions -
This is a huge piece. It stands approx 72 cms tall. The circumference is approximately 200cms (ie two meters!).
