Pierre de Clausade coastal scene.
A Pierre de Clausade painting of a beach scene – Probably in Brittany. Framed. Approximately 50 x 60 cms.
Pierre de Clausade was born in Paris 1910 but had to wait until he was in his thirties before meeting any success with his painting. Clausade paintings are highly distinctive – Huge banks of grey and white clouds providing the backdrop to striking landscapes.
Pierre de Clausade exhibited many times in Paris at The Société National des Beaux Arts and The Salon d’ Hiver (1942,1943,1944, 1946,1947,1948), as well as in America. His work was well accepted and in 1943 he held his first one-man exhibition in Paris which was a phenomenal success.
His fame spread abroad, and as a result he held exhibitions in such places as Rio de Janeiro, Boston, New York and Trans-Jordania. Distinguished collectors such as the Brazilian Ambassador collected his works, and they were also acquired by The Boston and Minneapolis Museums of Fine Art.
Clausade painted many rural and coastal landscapes mostly of the French countryside. Some of his most popular works feature Paris in the snow, and he also painted Venice and, like most fine French painters of the first half of the twentieth century, several nudes!
He was also a great music lover and in 1955 won the Prestigious “Prix de Poésie”. The Jury of the Paris Salon awarded him the great honour of the Medaille d’Argent in January 1953. Sadly, he died at the relatively early age of 68 in his Mountain home. Items available for viewing in Hereford(UK) by private appointment.
