Pair of spelter figures of the Greek Muses c.1890
This is a finely cast, elegant pair of spelter figures of two of the nine Greek Muses, probably French late 19th century. Each figure is classically dressed with olive garlands decorating the hair, one holds a book and pen while the other reads from a scroll while holding a lyre. They stand on low circular plinths. The original black surface has substantially worn away revealing the dark grey of the metal but the two finishes blend well together, only adding to the attractive patina.
Dimensions: 31 cm height - 12 cm width - 10 cm diameter base
Weight: 1.41 kg & 1.44 kg for a total weight of 2.85 kg
Condition: The figures are in good antique condition with the exception of a small tear in the metal on the outside of the wrist of the Muse reading the scroll (see close-up). This hardly distracts from these fine patinated castings.
Postage & packing: £8 within the UK. Please contact us if you would like to send these figures to an international destination.
