Pair of French oak single beds double bed
These are a good pair of solid oak single beds. They are French and date to around 1900. Unusually for French beds they are each designed to take a standard English single mattress. The beds can however be pushed together to form a very large kingsize bed, either with each side having a single mattress or, with some minor woodwork, made to take a giant kingsize. As you can see by the photographs, the beds don't quite touch when pushed together so you will need to sand the leg carvings a touch to make them flush.
They are magnificent beds. The beds have curve and carved posts with trailing carved details to the footboards and bold foliate carving to the headboards. The beds are panelled and have their original oak rails and join on their original large bolts. The beds are solid when put together. The oak is well polished.
These are a quality pair of beds. They will look good in an antique or vintage setting. The beds split for moving.
Condition good. Minor marks from usage as you would expect in period beds. Minor loss of carved detailing on one footboard. See Photo.
As with all rail beds you will need to get some pine slats to run between the rails and some batons to run parallel to the steel rails to which you can screw the slats. This is really easy and you will get all you need and all the advice you need from any builders merchants. The materials are very inexpensive.
