Pair of Chinese Pith Paintings Emperor & Empress
Superb pair of Mid 19th century Chinese pith gouache watercolour paintings of an Emperor and Empress from the Qing Dynasty in wonderful condition and attractively framed. The detail in the painting is astounding, particularly in the depiction of the rulers' costumes which appear on paper as sumptuous as the real thing. The artist's attention to detail extends to the tables and the objects on them, the clever depiction of marble for the table top, various types of fruit in a bowl, a vase of peonies - all beautifully executed. The Emperor is holding a jade ruyi (sceptre) symbolizing power and good fortune.
Dimensions: Frame 35 x 42 cm, Image 16.5 x 22 cm
Condition: The pith paintings are in very good condition - only a small split in the extreme top left corner of the Emperor painting being observable. They are mounted behind thick board with a gold covered bevelled edge and enclosed within a gilt frame all of which are in good condition. They are ready to be hung.
Postage & packing: £12 within the UK. Please contact us for a quote for delivery to an international destination.
