This adorable pair of dogs, one Scottie and one Schnauzer, are perfect for keeping your books in place and will definitely guard them faithfully!
These Black Forest carved bookends are made of ebonised wood and date to the 1930s. Black Forest is a broad term that covers wood carvings primarily from Switzerland but also Southern Germany. They were extremely popular from the mid-19th to the mid-20th century. Most earlier pieces depict bears and sometimes deer but into the 20s and 30s dogs became increasingly popular.
These two dogs standing in front of their kennels have got real character and would grace any bookshelf. They are 12cm long, 7.2cm wide and 13.8cm high to the top of the kennels. They are in very good condition with no chips or damage, just a little softening of the corners. They have a lovely patina. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
Shipping in the UK is £6 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For Parcel Post.
Overseas customers please enquire about shipping costs before making a purchase.
