Pair of 19th c gouaches shipping in Bay of Naples gouache naples ship %%alt5%%
In rather splendid original condition this pair of gouaches, view of Mount Vesuvius by day and by night date to 1840-1860. Both are in the original frames with original 19th century rippled glass. The colours remain just so striking. In each, ships are in the foreground, French and British. The pair are unrestored and we are so pleased with their look with wear to the frames. The night view has a slight crease from the left side. One had newspaper in the back from 1935, perhaps where part of the original back board is missing.

The day view has a small loss to the glass in the top right corner. We have not replaced this as it is the original glass.
