Interesting painting of a late 19th.c. Royal Navy ironclad ship c.1930. Celebrating the era of transition from sail to steam the unnamed ship would appear to a steam frigate or screw corvette from around 1870. With three masts and a funnel and the distinctive sloping prow. Nice detail, note the figures on the bridge, the rigging and the white ensign flying from the mizzen. Sailing though a rough sea under a clearing sky. Painted in gouache on paper (painting dimensions: 18″ x 13″). Presented behind glass in the original gilt frame with a gold card slip. Very good condition.
