Painted Pine Marriage Chest Dated 1885
Charming late 19th.c. Bavarian painted pine marriage chest c.1885. Ideal as a coffee table or as a hall seat with storage. Open the lid to reveal useful storage space inside plus a little compartment to the left hand side the lid of which forms a stay for the top of the chest. In solid pine with superb original scumbled paintwork designed to imitate the grain of more expensive timbers. The top rail carries the two surnames Gottfried and Spiniger together with the date 1885. Whilst the three arched panels below are each painted with a charming bouquet of flowers within a decorative surround. Decorative pressed brass escutcheon plate, iron carry handles and hinges. Some obvious wear but generally very good condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
