A beautifully framed original Japanese woodblock print of Prince Genji and a Puppet by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III, 1786-1865), Edo Period, c.1857. Prince Genji (in the pale-coloured kimono) and his assistants are playing a puppet at a garden gate on a night with a full moon. Two court ladies are watching the play holding hand held lanterns. The full moon shines the autumn flowers and the people in the garden.

Dimensions: Frame - Height 62 cm x width 49 cm x depth 3.5 cm

Image (mount window) - 35 cm x 23.5 cm

Condition: The print has not been inspected outside its frame but appears to be in good antique condition. The colours are somewhat muted and there is a stain centre left which partly extends onto Prince Gengi's face.

It is beautifully presented within an ivory mount and black stained wooden frame which is in perfect condition. This print was acquired from the same source as several other original woodblock prints all of which are presented in the same way.
