Original Eileen Soper Edwardian Pencil Drawings
There are five original (1920's) pencil drawings by Eileen Alice Soper, RMS SWLA (1905-1990) collected together in a single frame.
When we acquired the collection they were in very unflattering mounts and in poor mid century frames. We believe these charming pictures deserved to be saved and properly presented so have had them custom mounted and framed to offer a much better presentation of the work of this important early 20th century British artist.
Eileen Alice Soper was schooled by her father, George Soper, and soon showed her talent in etching and rose to fame herself. Having made her first etching at the age of only thirteen, in 1918, her etched work was first exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition in 1921, the sixteen year old became one of the youngest artists ever to exhibit at the Royal Academy, Eileen attracted immediate attention and her future success was assured.
Her skills lay in understanding of the joy, freedom and liveliness of children. Childhood was to be Eileen’s constant theme – children at play being the particular subject Over the next ten years she produced around 160 original etchings, the popularity of which has endured to the present day. Finishing original etchings in 1930 and moving on to original illustration , she famously became the commissioned illustrator for Enid Blyton's "Famous Five" books as well as others. She went on to be a wildlife artist and founder member of Society of Wildlife Artists.
