North Italian Victorian baroque corner chair
This is a beautiful chair. It is Northern Italian. The Italians have been making this same figural corner armchair for the last two hundred years. The design varies very little over the years and the quality is wonderful. This particular chair dates to the nineteenth century. Just look how elegant the cherub head is in the centre of the chair. Look at the figural carving to the splats. The legs are turned and carved with acanthus leaves
with floral carving to the apron. It is beautiful and with all the drama you expect in the rococo design.
.
The chair has a drop in seat which has been reupholstered and the condition of the woodwork and joints is excellent.
This is a very pretty chair for a formal hall or principal room or bedroom. It would look good on the turn of a staircase.
The chair back is 31.5 inches high and the seat is 16.5 inches high and the arms are a max of 27.5 inches from outside arm to outside arm.
