Norman Makinson 1951 Festival of Britain Wedgwood %%alt5%% %%alt6%%
PLEASE READ:A rare black and white version of the iconic mug designed by Norman Makinson for the 1951 Festival of Britain celebrating the centenary of The Great Exhibition of 1851. The image features Crystal Palace in 1851 and the futuristic Skylon Tower 1951. Very few monochrome versions were issued and were mostly for presentation to Wedgwood staff.
This mug has had a few problems. See the last photo. A rim chip plus a manufacture fault have been professionally restored. The interior was also very stained, but has been re-glazed for appearance purposes. The exterior of the mug is perfect and has had no damage, the issues being confined to the top rim and interior staining. There is still a little staining to the inside well. See photo 4. The mug displays beautifully and priced to reflect the restoration.
