New Hall Landscape Cup & Saucer Trio 3750
A fine late New Hall bone china tea and coffee trio of fluted shape with loop handles. Underglaze mazarine blue ground with large central shaped reserve with acanthus leaf and Greek key detail in gilt. Finely painted landscapes to the centre of each piece of various buildings set on the banks of rivers with people walking and fishing. Delicate gilt decoration over the blue ground and around the outside of the cups with gilt bands around the rims and feathers down the handles. Pattern number 3750 painted in gilt to the underside of the cups with the addition of the number 4 giving the appearance of being fractional but this is not the case. c.1830-1835.
Reference: A Compendium of British cups, Berthoud, plate 995 shows a similar cup also with the number 4 giving the pseudo fractional appearance and New Hall, Holgate, plate 93 for another.
The tea cup measures 5.5cm (2 1/8") high and 9.2cm (3 5/8") rim to rim and the coffee cup is 6.1cm (2 3/8") high and 7.3 (2 7/8") rim to rim. The saucer measures 14.3cm (5 5/8") wide and 2.8cm (1 1/8") high.
In excellent condition with no damage or repair and very minor handling wear, just a little to the gilt in the centre of the saucer.
