Delightful naive painting of Telephus suckled by a doe c.1860. In a scene from Greek mythology Telephus, son of Hercules sits in the lap of his mother Auge (daughter of the King of Tegea and a Priestess of Athena) but is feeds from a doe stood over them. With a small dog sat beside them and set in a simple landscape. Painted in naive style in oil on canvas. Missing some small portions of paint, otherwise good condition, relaid onto canvas and presented unframed on a simple wooden stretcher.
