Minton Floral Clarence Basket Godden Collection
Stunning little porcelain basket by Minton, c.1835 from the Geoffrey Godden collection. A waisted rectangle with shaped rim and a twist effect handle in a soft green ground with moulded bunches of grapes dotted along it. The centre is beautifully painted with various garden flowers and the sides are encrusted with individually modelled flowers, leaves and buds. All highlighted with gilding and soft green. This model is known as the Clarence Basket, model number 118 and this basket is featured in Godden's book "Minton Pottery & Porcelain Of The First Period 1793-1850" plate 69. It is marked in underglaze blue with crossed swords and retains the Godden Collection sticker.
It measures 7 1/4 (18.5cm) long, 6" (15cm) wide and 3 1/8" (8cm) high. Condition is very good with no body damage or restoration. There are a few minor losses to petals but surface wear to the enamels and gilding is minimal.
