Milliners Hat Blocks for Military Bearskin Cap
An extraordinary set of three wooden hat blocks, expertly shaped to form the body of the iconic Foot Guards Bearskin Cap.
Each block is crafted in three interlocking sections, designed to dismantle neatly within the blocked crown — a clever construction that allowed makers to remove the crown with ease during the hat‑making process.
They carry a deep, rich patina and the unmistakable signs of long, practical use. Far from flaws, these marks are exactly what make them exceptional: authentic working tools from the creation of one of Britain’s most recognisable military garments. Their wear tells the story of countless caps shaped by hand, making them extremely rare survivors of their trade.
We date them to the late Victorian period.
