Mid-Victorian Large Scottish Sampler Dated 1862
An attractive and unusually large framed Scottish Embroidered Sampler in what appears to be original dark wood frame. Due to strict religous ideology, Scottish samplers tended to be more austere and less 'frivously' decorated as their English counterparts. This large example does however have an understated elegance and is a lovely piece of social history from 150 years ago!

Mary Young Died at Ashyburn Dec 10 1851
As the tree falls there must it Lie there is
No work wisdom nor device in the Grave
As I walked to the churchyard of Newcum
I saw many a grave where well known
Friends were Laid I thought ther was a
time approaching when this Body of mine
Will be Laid in the dust there to rest untill
The Resurrection whan all Shall be called for
To give an account of the deeds done in the body
Behold they are not Dead thou knowest that
They live in a better region with their Sav
iour and their God and that we Shall soon
Meet them again to part no more 1862
