Remarkable mid 19th.c. metamorphic table and stand c.1860. Presents as a very smart amboyna wood pedestal side table to stand flat against the wall. However, the top incorporates two hinged pieces at one end which lift to make (together with the supplied brackets which locate into brass fittings on the surface) stands to hold books or sheet music. The top also slides horizontally to one side to fit easily over a chair or bed and can also be raised in height to 40″ to make a tall ‘duet’ music stand or lecturn. Beautifully figured amboyna wood veneers with inlaid and ebonised detail, raised on an ebonised classical column on a shaped plinth with turned and ebonised feet. Good unrestored condition, missing the original pin to hold the table against the ratchet when raised, otherwise original through.
