Mary Browning Pastel Portrait Apricot Poodle 1971
We are pleased to offer for sale this beautifully executed pastel of an apricot poodle by the artist MARY BROWNING, who has signed the painting in the lower right hand corner and dated in '71. The pastel shows a full head study of this delightful dog and is so realistic that one would almost like to give it a stroke.
Mary Browning is a 20th Century artist, who lives in Greatworth, Banbury, Oxfordshire and taught art for fourteen years at Tudor Hall School in Banbury. She now paints and gives courses in the use of pastel. Along with many living artists, we have to rely on the internet for any information that we can glean as they are not covered in the reference books. She was a Member of The Society of Equestrian Artists and exhibited with them. She specialises in pastels of dogs and horses in a very similar style to that of Marjorie Cox and has been painting dogs for over 40 years. She has painted dogs belong to H.M. Queen Elizabeth, the late Queen Mother, The Princess Royal, the Duchess of Gloucester and Princess Michael of Kent.
However, her auctions results are available at findartinfo.com (41 listings), arcadja.com and artprice.com (30). A pastel head study of foxhounds by this artist achieved £749 at Christie's.
The pastel is on buff paper, has been mounted and is framed in a 1 1/2" honey coloured frame with silver insert, which suits it really well. It will be supplied wired and ready to hang.
Image size: 15 5/8" x 11 3/4" - 39.7cm x 29.85cm
Frame size: 22 3/4" x 18 7/8" - 57.8cm x 47.9cm
Medium: Pastels on paper
Condition: Excellent. The frame is in very good condition.
